Sample Login

Sample login is the process of receiving a sample or a batch of samples and logging them into the system. The minimum data that should be saved is the company from where the samples originated, the login date, the name of the person logging in the samples, any ID associated with the package containing the samples. In addition the samples are associated with an initial project. The data entry form automatically generates an ID for each sample based upon the date and an offset creating a unique sample ID referenced as the BxS-ID. Both of these can be changed by the logger. The samples can also be grouped by a batch number. A convention for IDs was used in all of the applications. Each ID begins with Bx followed by a letter 'U" for user, 'C' for contact, 'P' for project and 'S' for sample.

The data entry form displayed below allows for reading in predefined information from an Microsoft Excel File, a character delimited text file, a Microsoft Access database and manual entry. Clicking on the radio button causes the form to change for each type of data entry. Other types of data entry can be added,  for example from other types of databases such as Oracle, Sybase or DB2.

Once the samples are loaded and reviewed they can be saved to the database and barcodes can be generated (not shown) using the BxS-ID.
