The following figure shows 6 tables in two columns where the tables contain Major League Baseball Standings data from April 17, 2006.  The first table in the upper left corner was drawn by fitting it to approximately half of the width of the page and letting the drawing algorithms determine the width of the columns.  The remaining five tables used the calculated column width data from the first table which ensured that the widths of the columns in succeeding tables would all match the first table.
